TRADITIONAL LACE > Cluny / Leavers / Nottingham Lace
CLUNY LACE also known as LEAVERS LACE or NOTTINGHAM LACE is a more heavy textural lace traditionally made with cotton or linen thread with geometric designs of wheat or wheel designs on a coarse mesh and can feature small raised areas.
Originating in Cluny France, in style it is the most similar to handmade bobbinette lace and was commonly made in Nottingham on Leavers Lace machines.
Though historically cluny lace has been used in furnishings, such as tablecloths and lace doilies, its quintessential vintage style has led to revival in its use in much wider applications such as daywear, bridal and other crafts.
